Hair RemovalRemoval of unwanted hair has become one of the most popular cosmetic treatments for women and an increasing number of men. In the past, treatments were limited to shaving, messy creams, and painful waxing or electrolysis, but now with the advent of laser and intense pulsed light technologies, permanent hair reduction can be preformed on most skin types, including tanned skin, anywhere on the face or body. Imagine the time you can save with no more razors, cuts, bumps, and unsightly hair.
VPL hair removal is convenient, safe, and gives lasting results. Unwanted hair is generally considered a cosmetic concern; however, it can also be a social stigma for women with facial hair or men with excessive body hair. Women often experience additional hair growth during hormonal changes such as pregnancy and some diseases also have excessive hair growth as a symptom. Ingrown hairs and a condition known as obliquities barbae, caused by curved hairs growing into the skin, can be painful and embarrassing. VPL hair removal gently removes unwanted hair by a method known as photoepilation. Light energy passes through the skin and gets absorbed by the target pigment melanin in the hair follicle, thereby selectively damaging the active hair follicles and inhibiting hair re-growth. Hair goes through three distinct phases: growth, regression, and resting. Since only the hair follicles in the active growth phase are targeted, multiple treatments are required. Generally VPL can remove 90% or more of hair with 5 treatments. Procedure: The area being treated is first tested to determine the safest and most effective settings for you. Clients usually experience a mild pinching or stinging sensation that goes away quickly and lessens with subsequent treatments since fewer hair follicles remain. No local anesthesia or pain medication is typically required; however, we do offer topical anesthetics for sensitive areas if desired. Immediately following the treatment, skin may appear a bit red and swollen but usually goes away within a few hours. Many hairs will just wipe off but others will continue to “shed” for a few weeks. Potential Side Effects: Although clients experience few side effects, the most commonly noticed are slight reddening and local swelling of the skin. In rare instances blistering, scarring or pigment changes may occur. Special considerations are important when VPL is used on darker skin tones to allow for safe and effective treatment. Recommended number of treatments: We recommend 5 treatments, 4 - 8 weeks, apart depending on the individual skin and hair types. You will see results immediately but as hair grows in cycles it normally takes multiple treatments to achieve the desired results.
