BOTOX® (Botox) Cosmetic is a purified protein of Botulinum Toxin Type A and has been FDA approved for the treatment of wrinkles since 2002, though it has been in use for several other conditions since the 1980’s. It is most commonly used to eliminate or reduce the frown lines between the eyebrows, the wrinkles in the forehead and crow’s feet around the eyes.
BOTOX® (Botox) works by a process known as cosmetic denervation in which impulses from the nerve to the tiny facial muscles that create wrinkling are blocked. Within a few days, the muscles treated begin to relax and maximal relaxation occurs within two weeks. The overlying skin remains smooth and wrinkles are dramatically softened, so you look years younger. We occasionally may need to do touch-ups if the desired result was not achieved. The effects wear off gradually but results typically last three to four months, depending on your unique muscle physiology, and many clients find their results last even longer with subsequent treatments.
 Procedure: Please call to schedule an appointment at our center. During the actual procedure, we will use a very tiny needle to inject a precise amount of Botox into the area being treated. There is very little pain and no anesthesia is required, although we do like to apply ice to the area for a few seconds before and after for comfort. After your treatment you should use the facial muscles in the area treated and you should not rub any of the injection sites for at least two hours. You must also remain upright and no flying for at least four hours.
Potential Side-Effects: Some clients may experience some slight bruising at the injection site which will go away in a few days and can be covered with make-up. Rarely patients may experience facial drooping which is undesirable. This is temporary and will resolve with time.
Recommended treatment: We recommend a single treatment with maybe a touch up and then 3 to 4 month intervals for maximum results.
