Restylane & Perlane

As we age, our skin loses collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid, giving way to deep wrinkles, lines and creases which add years to our appearance. These changes are most noticeable around the corners of the mouth, above and below the lips, and running from the corner of the nose to the mouth in what is referred to as the nasolabial fold. Now you can safely improve your appearance by filling in those lines with Restylane or Perlane.

Restylane and Perlane are two of the dermal fillers out on the market today. These non-animal, biotechnology-produced, crystal-clear, biodegradable gels are hyaluronic acid substances normally found in the skin. They have significantly less risk of allergic reaction and transmission of diseases than fillers that are derived from animal products. Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in our connective tissues and in the skin where it helps to create volume and fullness for a youthful appearance. In addition to being used to flatten wrinkles, Restylane and Perlane can also augment lips with more volume and lessen the appearance of certain scars, however, it does not tighten the skin itself. The effects can last 6 months or more and touch ups can be done anytime. Since the body has its own system for absorbing hyaluronic acid, it slowly disappears over time without a trace.

Procedure: Restylane or Perlane is injected directly into the skin with an ultrafine needle. The injections may vary from a small prick to moderately painful. Depending on the treatment location a topical anesthetic or a dental block are used. It may also be helpful to take a couple of Tylenol or Advil an hour or two before treatment to reduce discomfort.

Potential Side Effects: After the treatment some common injection related reactions may occur, such as swelling, redness, pain, itching, discoloration, and tenderness at the injection site. These typically resolve spontaneously within one or two days after the injection. Other types of reactions are very rare, but about 1 in 2000 treated patients have experienced localized allergic-like reactions. These reactions started about two to four weeks after the injection and last as long as two weeks. If you have had herpes before an injection can cause the herpes to return.

Recommended treatment: We recommend a single treatment and then 5 to 6 month intervals for maximum results.
